Abstract
Energy efficiency is a key element of EU plans to reach a 55% reduction of GHG emissions by 2030 and a carbon-neutral economy by mid-century.1 The energy efficiency of buildings is particularly critical to address the climate crisis; as of 2019, buildings were responsible for about a third of European GHG emissions and 40% of the final energy consumption, mostly for heating purposes supplied with fossil fuels.
